JEDEC Publishes First International Thermal Testing Standards for Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
ARLINGTON, Va., USA – MAY 23, 2012 –JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, the global leader in the development of standards for the microelectronics industry, today announced the publication of a new series of standards for component level testing of high-brightness/power LEDs. Development within JEDEC’s JC-15 Committee involved LED industry leaders, and resulted in the new JESD51-5x series of standards aimed at thermal characterization of power LED components. The series is in compliance with the International Commission on Illumination (CIE)’s existing LED measurement recommendations. Dow Electronic Materials Expands its LED Technologies’ Portfolio to Include Specialty Phosphor Technology

Dow Electronic Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) today announced its bolt-on acquisition of Lightscape Materials, Inc., a spin-off of SRI International. Lightscape Materials is a private, US-based research company with intellectual property in specialty phosphor technology. Major Lightscape Materials’ investors included Wisepower, a Korean company, and Silicon-Valley based SRI International. Livermore, Calif. and TOKYO, JAPAN May 10, 2012 – Bridgelux Inc., a leading developer and promoter of LED lighting technologies and solutions, and Toshiba Corporation, a world-leading semiconductor manufacturer, today announced that Bridgelux and Toshiba have achieved the industry’s top class 8” GaN on Silicon LED chip emitting 614mW, <3.1V@350mA with 1.1mm square chip, just months after they have engaged in a joint collaborative agreement this year.
