New York City’s Central Park Completes LED Lighting Installation
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) recently completed the installation of nearly 1,600 LED luminaires that light walkways and grassy areas in Central Park. The new luminaires from Spring City Electrical feature Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) XLamp® XP-G LEDs in each fixture and were produced using an advanced light engine from Heatron. DOT officials estimate the new LED lighting will reduce energy usage by 62 percent and deliver annual maintenance savings of nearly $30,000 compared to metal halide lighting.

Arnhem to switch to LED lighting on a large scale
Arnhem, The Netherlands – The Municipality of Arnhem is to install Philips LED lighting on a large scale, in line with its ambitions in the area of sustainability. 2,300 street lights on the city’s major roads are to be fitted with dimmable LED lamps. This measure will achieve energy savings of some 47%, equivalent to 500,000 kWh a year. The investment will be recouped through the reduced costs of energy consumption, maintenance and lamp replacement. The project will take four years and was recently started in Arnhem South around Groningensingel.

Long Island Town Upgrades to Energy-Efficient Cree Street Lights for Big Savings
Installation of Cree LEDway® Street Lights Expected to Save Nearly $200,000 Yearly in Energy and Maintenance Costs
DURHAM, NC –
The Town of Oyster Bay, New York is installing LEDway® street lights from Durham-based manufacturer Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) as part of a Town-wide upgrade of its high pressure sodium (HPS) lights to energy-efficient LED lighting. To-date, 2,500 Cree® LEDway street lights have been installed out of the 4,000 planned. The Town received a $2 million Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) from the U.S. Department of Energy to fund the installation along 750 miles of roadway in Oyster Bay. Read more »

Paris, Tokyo-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it has reached a basic agreement with the Louvre Museum to replace part of the interior lighting of the Louvre with its own LED lighting. This is Phase 2 of a renovation project that Toshiba Corporation and the Louvre Museum have pursued in partnership since 2010. This next project phase will see renovation of LED lighting in important interior spaces of the museum. It includes specific exhibit lighting for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and for the Red Rooms, which display famous masterpieces such as Jacques-Louis David’s Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine, as well as the Napoleon Hall, the Louvre’s main entrance.
