Mr Francis P. DAWSON - Biography

Francis P DAWSON He received the B.Sc degree in physics and the B.ASc., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1978, 1982, 1985, and 1988, respectively.
He worked as a process control engineer in the pulp and paper, rubber and textile industries during the period 1978-1980.
From 1982 to 1984 he acted as a consultant on various projects. Development areas included high-frequency link power supplies, power supplies for specialized applications and high current protection circuits.
Since 1988 he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto where he is engaged in teaching and research.
His areas of research interest include static power converters and their applications, signal processing in power engineering applications, energy storage systems and device or process modeling. He has also participated as a Consultant or Project Leader in several industrial projects. Dr. Dawson is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and is an IEEE Fellow.

Matthias SABATHIL,
He was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1974.
He received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Technical University of Munich, Munich,Germany.
Since 2004, he has been with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH, Regensburg, Germany, focusing on the modeling of device properties as well as the internal quantum efficiency of high-performance InGaN LEDs.
Since 2009 he is heading the modelling group at OSRAM OS.

Jean-Pierre LAURET Graduated from ecole superieure d’optique (aka ESO), France, year 1999.
From 1999 to 2004 : Optical design engineer - Optis (Toulon, France).
From 2004 to now : Optics R&D engineer, then optical developments manager – Gaggione (Montreal la Cluse, France).
My actual job is to design the standard and custom optical components manufactured by Gaggione. I started this activity alone, and because of the fast growing activity in the optical business, I am now in charge of a three people team. I have designed the complete range of Lednlight standard collimators as well as numerous custom optical systems dedicated to high power LEDs (traffic signalling, street lighting, architectural lighting…)

Georges HADZIIOANNOU, Until 2008, he was professor at the University of Strasbourg (France), where he directed the Engineering School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials and the “Laboratoire d’Ingénierie des Polymères pour les Hautes Technologies”.
His research area covers semi-conducting polymers, nanostructured polymer materials, polymer materials for information storage and plastic electronics.
He received his Doctorate in Physical Sciences from the University Louis Pasteur from Strasbourg in 1980. After a two-year post-doc at the University of Massachusetts, he became research staff member and group leader of IBM Almaden Research Laboratory until 1989. In California, he was also Industrial Research Fellow of National Institute for Science and Technology and consulting professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University.
Until 2001 he was Professor at the University of Groningen (Netherlands), where he directed the Materials Science Center.
In 1993 he was elected fellow of the American Physical Society, in 1998 he received the Humboldt Research Award and in 2007 he received the Süe Award from the French Chemistry Association.
He also co-founded two start-ups in Groningen (NL), “Polymer Service Center” and “Papyron” for developing innovative technology for electronic paper.

Christophe MARTY He has been designing for 10 years at Ingelux lighting schemes (electric light or daylight) focusing on high energetic and visual performance.
His schemes have been successfully applied to world renown projects in Louvre Museum, Eiffel Tower, award winning hospitals, and many non-residential buildings. Ingelux is involved in research programs on the lighting field, and has coordinated various programs for ADEME, ANR, CIE and IEA. Most of these programs are based on scientific process and use on-site validation with final users.

Marc TERNISIEN Marc Ternisien was born the 11th of February 1980 in Boulogne Sur Mer (France). He’s got a Master Degree in Lasers, Metrology and Telecommunications from the University of Paris XIII and the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.
He defended his PhD thesis in Micro and Nanotechnology in 2008 at the University of Lille I. In September 2009, he joined the Toulouse Paul Sabatier University as an Associate Professor in the “Lumiére et Matière” team lead by the Professor Georges Zissis.
After his PhD thesis concerning the influence of Self Assembled Monolayers on the interface between the gate dielectric and the organic semi-conductor in Organic Field Effect Transistors, he’s now interested in the interface problems in Organic Light Emitting Diodes and their influence on the performance of these devices.

Mr Theo TREURNIET - Biography

Mr Theo TREURNIET is working as Senior Architect Thermal Management at the LightLabs Laboratories of Philips Lighting.
In this role, he is responsible for introducing new cooling concepts and maintaining the thermal technology roadmap for LED lamps and lighting systems. He is leading a team of 10 thermal engineer who on the thermal challenges in high power LED systems.
He received his Master of Science degree (1997) from Delft University of Technology in the area of Applied Physics and completed his Ph.D. degree (2002) at Delft University of Technology with a thesis on Direct Numerical Simulation of Premixed Turbulent Combustion.
He joined Philips Lighting in 2002, where he started working the thermo-mechanical issues in ceramic HID lamps. Since 2004, he is working in the area of thermal management in LED systems.

Bruno DUSSET VIDALET is the founder of Astron FIAMM.
Creator of the brand BLACKBODY.
A graduate of ISEP (an engineering school specialized in Electronics & Computer Science) and from HEC in Marketing and Business development, Bruno Dussert-Vidalet has followed an international career path and benefits from strong experience in Innovation Management, Business and Industrial Development.
From 1995 to 1998, he worked for Alcatel IRS to create software dedicated to air defense.
Then, from 1998 to 2002, he joined the Multimedia Department at Siemens VDO, to contribute to the rollout of new technologies such as auto radios, navigation devices and on-board phones.
From 2002 to 2007, he reinforced his industrial expertise within the FIAMM, in Italy, by diversifying the group’s activities and participating to its business development.
In 2007, supported by FIAMM he stepped into the OLED business by creating Astron FIAMM and its brand BLACKBODY.

Mr Claude WEISBUCH - Biography

Claude WEISBUCH was born in 1945.
He was an Assistant Professor, at the University of Paris, from 1969 to 1979 specializing in Solid State Physics.
He joined Bell Laboratories (Murray-Hill, NJ) as a Member of Technical Staff from 1979 to 1981, working on the optical properties of quantum wells.
He went to the Compagnie de Saint-Gobain as a “Directeur de Recherches” in charge of Exploratory Research from 1981 to 1983.
He was the Director of the Physics Laboratory in the Central Research Laboratories of Thomson-CSF from 1983 to 1992 and an Associate Professor of Physics at the Ecole Polytechnique from 1984 to 1996.
He was chief scientist of the ministry of defense (France) from 1992 to 1998.
He is since 1997 a directeur de recherches at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique ( CNRS ) with laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée, Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France.
He is since 2002 distinguished professor in the materials department of University of California at Santa Barbara.
He is the founder and chief scientist of a high tech company, Genewave, Palaiseau, France, which he created in dec. 2001, devoted to new concepts in fluorescent biochips and molecular diagnostics systems.
He has authored or co-authored more than 180 papers, five books, 35 patents. He codirected 5 international schools or workshops on physics.
He is a founding member of the Académie des Technologies, France, and a fellow of the American Physical Society. He received in 1999 the Welker prize, awarded by the international conference on compound Semiconductors.

Mr Ching-Cherng SUN - Biography

Ching-Cherng SUN was born in Tainan city in Taiwan. He received his BS in Electrophysics from National Chiao Tung University in 1988 and his Ph. D. in Optical Sciences, from National Central University (NCU), in Jan. 1993.
He has become a full professor at National Central University since 2002, and has been named the Distinguished Professor at NCU since 2006.
He was presented Optical Technology Contribution Award by the Optical Engineering Society of the Republic of China in 2006, the Industrial Contribution Award by the Ministry of Economy Affairs of ROC in 2009, and the Distinguished Research Award by the National Science Council in 2009.
In August 2008, he served as the first Director of the Institute of Lighting and Display Science. He has served as the Chair of the Department of Optics and Photonics at NCU since 2009.
He is currently a Fellow of both the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and Optical Society of America (OSA), and a member of the Optical Engineering Society of Republic of China and the Illuminating Society of Taiwan. His research interests are LED lighting optics, volume holographic storage, display optics, photorefractive devices, holographic optical elements, optical information processing, optical metrology, micro-optics and optical engineering.
Mr Pierre LEFEBVRE - Biography

Mr Pierre LEFEBVRE is the Research Director with the French CNRS.
He spent most of his scientific career with the Semiconductor Research Group at the Montpellier II University, France.
He is a physicist specialized in the optical properties of low-dimensional semiconductor systems (quantum wells, quantum dots).
Since 23 years, he analyses these complex materials using a variety of spectroscopic techniques (photoluminescence, absorption, reflectivity) and he interprets his observations with the help of quantum-mechanical models. In the last twelve years, he devoted his research to nanostructures based on group-III nitrides (GaN, InGaN,…) and, more recently, to those based on ZnO and its alloys.
In August 2009, he joined as a visiting scientist the Institute of Optoelectronic Systems and Microtechnology of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain.
He is currently working on structures based on semiconductor nanocolumns and on their applications to light emission, to photovoltaic devices and to new concepts of physical and chemical sensors.

Mr Cameron MILLER - Biography

Cameron Miller is a research chemist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the United States. He obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University (1994) studying high resolution infrared spectroscopy.
He joined NIST in 1996, to work in the fields of Photometry and Retroreflection and in 2003 was appointed the Photometry Project Leader. His research areas include all aspects of Photometry, Retroreflection, Measurement Uncertainty and Vision Science applied to lighting. Cameron is active in standards organization and committees, such as CIE, CIEUSA, and ASTM, and professional societies such as ISCC, NEMA, and CORM.
He is also involved in the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program as an assessor for the Energy Efficient Lighting Program and the Calibration Program.

Dr Wouter KOEK - Biography

Dr. Wouter KOEK is a consultant in the department of Customized Applied Metrology at VSL, the Dutch Metrology Institute.
He serves on several (inter)national committees relating to Solid-State Lighting, and has initiated and executed numerous LED-related projects, both for industry and governments.
He also holds a PhD in applied physics from Delft University of Technology, and worked at several companies and research institutes prior to joining VSL in 2007.

Mr Christophe MARTINSONS, He received a Ph. D in Physics from the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne in 1998. Up to 2000, he held a research scientist position at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
From 2000 to 2007, he worked in the field of home automation for the HAGER Group. In 2007, he joined CSTB to head the Lighting, Electricity and Electromagnetism division.
He currently conducts research and consultancy work in the field of combined daylighting and artificial lighting solutions in order to promote energy-efficiency in buildings while providing the best visual comfort conditions for users. His approach to lighting is put forward in the forthcoming French building energy code (RT 2012). Christophe Martinsons is the coordinator of the CITADEL program, aimed at promoting the successful integration of LEDs in buildings.
Christophe Martinsons has authored papers in peer-reviewed international journals in the fields of optics, heat transfer and inverse problems. He also holds several patents in optical design.

She is holding the CELMA office in Brussels and is coordinating all CELMA lobbying and communication efforts and supporting the members on actual policy issues.
Stéphanie has several years of experience in a European Network of Cities in Brussels (EUROCITIES) and also in private companies in France (EEIG L’Echangeur Groupe Galeries Lafayette) and in Belgium (Public Affairs Consultancy Adamson BSMG). Mrs Emilie VIASNOFF Graduated from Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon, France and held a PhD in Ecole Polytechnique, France on optical properties of photonic crystals.
From 2005 to 2009, she worked for Saint-Gobain Recherche first as a R&D engineer on thin film processes and then in 2008, she took the head of a project for development of substrates for OLED applications.
In 2009, she moved to CEA-LETI and took the head of the display lab. Her current work focuses on technologies related to OLED and LCD displays.

Mrs Mia PAGET - Biography

Mrs Mia PAGET’s primary areas of expertise are in mechanical engineering and energy policy, with a specific recent focus on solid-state lighting. She has developed and managed the DOE’s Solid State Lighting Commercially Available LED Product Evaluation and Reporting Program (CALiPER) since its inception in 2006, working closely with several stakeholder groups within the lighting industry, from luminaire manufacturers to lighting testing laboratories to standards committees to develop and apply measurement methods and analyze results of extensive product testing.
Ms. Paget also applies her expertise toward the research and development of “smart grid” solutions for the current and future energy grid and in human factors and situational awareness in power grid control systems in the US and internationally.
Mia Paget’s educational background is in Mechanical Engineering and Technology and Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees and gained expertise in measurement instrumentation, information technology, energy policy, and electric power systems.

Pr Marc FONTOYNONT - Biography

Marc FONTOYNONT is Professor at the National Engineering School of State Public Works in Lyon, France and Head of the Building Sciences Laboratory.
He is also Vice-President of the International Lighting Commission (Vienna, Austria), First Vice-President of the French Lighting Association (Paris, France) and Vice-President and co-founder of the Cluster Lumière (Lyon, France).
He has been working for about 30 years in lighting and daylighting optimization, starting in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California. He focuses on energy efficient schemes, with integrating energy concern, life cycle cost reduction, improved user satisfaction.
He is recipient of the Fresnel Medal and the Alfred Monnier Lighting Award. He is now Operating Agent of the Solid state Lighting Annex of the International Energy Agency aiming at improving reliability of tests of quality and performance of SSL worldwide.

Pr Georges ZISSIS - Biography

Georges ZISSIS born in Athens in 1964, graduated in 1986 from Physics dept of University of Crete (Greece) in general physics. He got his MSc and PhD in Plasma Science in 1987 and 1990 from Toulouse 3 University (France).
Today, he is full professor in the Electrical Engineering Dept of Toulouse 3 University. He is working the domain of Light Sources Science and Technology. Prof Zissis is deputy director of LAPLACE, a join laboratory between Toulouse 3 University, National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse and CNRS.
LAPLACE represents a task force of 300 researchers. He is co-responsible of the “Light & Mater” research team that enrols 20 researchers. Prof Zissis won in December 2006 the 1stAward of the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) Centenary Challenge for his work on normalization for urban lighting systems. In 2009 he got the Fresnel Medal of the French Illuminating Engineering Society and he won the Energy Globe Award for France.
Today he is President of the Regional Branch of the French Illuminating Society (AFE) and National Secretary of the same organism. Since 1986 he published 4 chapters in books, 53 papers in scientific Journals. He presented more than 200 papers (including 20 invited lectures and 7 tutorials) in scientific events. He was advisor of 7 PhD students.
